Day 10 - 13 March

The Three Gorges Dam trip was the highlight of this seven week Oversea Immersion Program in Wuhan, is a hydroelectric river dam in Yichang, Hubei, China. It is the largest hydroelectric power station in the world. It was completed on 30 Oct 2008.

Facts about the Dam,
The dam wall is made of concrete and is about 2,309 metres long, and 101 metres high. The wall is 115 metres thick on the bottom and 40 metres thick on top. The project used 27,200,000 cubic metres of concrete, 463,000 tonnes of steel and moved about 102,600,000 cubic metres of earth

When the water level is maximum at 175 metres above sea level, the reservoir created by the Three Gorges Dam is about 660 kilometres in length and 1.12 kilometres in width on average, and contains 39.3 km/cube of water. The total surface area of the reservoir is 1045 km².

It cost 180 Billion yuan

We took the tour bus for about 4 hours from school to reach Yi Chang, it was a long journey and most of us slept on the journey as it's was really tiring to wake up at 0600 Hours and the previous night I didn't slept well. After the long bus journey we reach Yi Chang for lunch, with everyone famish on the round table the food seems to disappear as soon as we start eating. When other table start eating, we are finished with the food and taking photos.

After lunch went to The Three Gorges Dam, it's was a sigh to behold,
Took pictures at the Three Gorges Park overlooking the dam, China indeed had done much effort in beautifying the area by building parks and re-planting trees.

Mr and Mrs Chua with the dam in the background,

Seeking Adventure in the park by climbing up their monuments,

Taking a group picture at the viewing point of the dam, half of them were missing as they were all amazed by the size of the dam.

Even elephant looks small as compared to the dam, this shows how huge the dam is
Next we went to the next park around the dam, one of the nicest group photo ever taken for this trip Mr Chua have Mrs Chua, and Mr Ma have us for company
The tour guide for this trip was like last trip, they seem to just keep on chanting and repeating us about the facts on the dam and the history which makes the trip perfect for sleeping

Had dinner at the same hotel and the food was gone in no time as we were all as hungry as wolfs, those China people are shock on the speed which we finishes the food,

After dinner we went to take the cruise, we were late by an hour or so thus when we board the cruise other passengers all look at us in disgust, we reach the Gezhouba Dam around 11pm and the lock was huge to the Singaporean on board, in China everything is huge from the building to food amount

It's was around midnight when we cleared the dam, i only wore shorts and T-shirt when I went to took photograph of it thus when the upper gate opens, cold air rushes in and it cause my DSLR auto focus to have problems,
Couldn't take a picute of the bridge as the Auto-Focus was spoil, but the outcome of the out of focus photo is much more beautiful, as beauty lies in the eyes of the beholder
Finally we reach the Three Gorges five lock gates, it look like gates of hell from out on the water and it take about four hours to clear the gates

It's much more larger than the previous one, five ship went in without much difficulty

It was about 3am when we cleared the first gate, as i was quite sleepy thus i went to sleep first
