Day 6 - 9 March

Monday Blues,

8am we had to wake up for the brief introduction of Hubei and Wuhan, total about 250 power point slides, how brief can it get when i had fallen asleep halfway through, although it was interesting but the timing and the weather was perfect for sleeping. When i turn around, i found out that I'm not the only one who had fallen asleep.

This is what i learn about Hubei

Hubei is known as the land of the phoenix.
Hubei is E(er) for short, it’s a province of thousand lake and its capital is Wuhan,
It’s the hometown of the first emperor, Yan(Shennong).
Hubei is rich in hydropower resources, agriculture, fishery and forestry. Hubei is mostly heavy industry like iron, steel, automobile and machineries.
There a lot of historical interests and scenic beauty, such as the Three Gorges of The Yangtze River, East Lake, Yellow Crane Tower, Temple of Emperor Yan in Suizhou, the home town of Quyuan in Zi Gui, Wudang mountain which is well know of it's martial arts and Shennongjia a primitive forest.
Hubei is about 186000 sq Km, it’s population is about 60700000 and above, it’s at the north of Dongting lake which is high in the west, low in the east, wide open to the south which is know as the Jiangnan plains,
Hubei is surrounded by Henan (North), JiangXi and Hunan (South), An Hui (East), Sichuan (West), Shaan Xi (North-West).

Hubei is a sub tropical monsoon climate, it’s mean annual temperature is about 15 degree Celsius to 17 degree Celsius, it’s hottest month is on July which highest of 40 degree Celsius, the coldest month is on January which is 1 to 5 degree Celsius, with annual rainfall of 800 to 1600 mm.

Hubei has 1 autonomous prefecture which is Enshi Tujiazu
Hubei have 12 prefecture-level cities known as Wuhan, Huangshi, Shiyan, Jingzhou, Yichang, Xiangfan, Ezhou, Jingmen, Xiaogan, Huanggang, Xianning, Suizhou
Hubei have 24 county-level cities,39 counties, 2 autonomous counties ,1 forest district: Shennongjia.
Hubei ethnic groups consist of Han, Tu, Miao, Hui, Dong, Manchu, Zhuang, and Mongolian.
Han is the major of the ethnic groups.

Hubei is known as the cradle of Chu as Chu was the largest country in Hubei, Chu had become the 7 most powerful states during the warring states, Chu had reached a very high level in the fields of bronze smelting, silk weaving, embroidery, lacquering, achievements had also been made in music, dancing, paintings, sculptures.
The Romance of The Three Kingdom had countless battles fought at Hubei as every strategist wanted to own Hubei.
Hubei is also the birth place of China modern industry as Zhang Zhi Dong set up Hangyang steelworks and texile industries are being developed.
Hubei is also the start of Chinese revolution, as Dr Sun Yat-sen started the revolution at WuChang.

Hubei is famous for its fresh water fish as everywhere in the lake is fish, the main cooking method is steaming and simmering.
Famous Hubei dishes are Steamed Blunt-Snout, Three-steamed dishes, Fried Bean Sheet, Eight Treasure Rice Puddings, Huangpi Three-in-one, Hongshan Vegetable Bolts, Honghu Braised Wild Duck, Xiao Tao Yuan Chicken Soups, Liangzi Lake Crabs and Pearl Meatballs.

Talents who are born in Hubei are Qu yuan, Zhuge Liang and Wang Zhaojun.

These are the following famous attractions East Lake, the Yellow Crane Tower, GuiYuan Temple, The Red Building, Guqintai, Mulan Lake, Hubei Provincial Museum, Three Gorges, Changyang Qingjiang, Hometown of Wang Zhaojun, Jingzhou Ancient City,Honghu Lake, Wudang Mountain, Natural Beauty of the Virgin forest of Shennongjia., Dahongshan Scenic Spot, Xian Tomb of Ming Dynasty, Ancient Longzhong, Liangzi Lake ecological tourist area.Thermal Spring, Chibi- Ancient Battlefield of the Three Kingdoms.

Yinchang is a city which is endows by Yangtze river for both its history and future as Yangtze river, it had stragtic advantage and it is deep enough for a port to be build.

Three Gorges Dam is proposed by Dr Sun Yat-san after the Chinese revolution, it is build seventy years after he proposed it.
The Dam provide China with hydroelectricity and flood control.

QingJiang is the origin of the ancient Ba people.

Xiling Gorge is have rapids and strong currents for river rafting.

Wudang Mountain is located in westen Hubei, Taoist holy land in china, it’s ancient architectural complex consists of eight palaces, two Taoist temples, 72 rock temples, 12 pavilions and 10 shrines. ZiXiao Palace is located at TianZhu peak it’s a main attraction at Wudang mountain.

Jingzhou is at the south of Hubei province, it’s a ancient cultural city with long history, Jingzhou city is divided into three parts and uses as a military function,

Longzhong is the hometown of Zhuge Liang, it is surrounded by hills covered with pine and cypress trees and embellished with winding streams.

Hubei Hans celebrates Spring Festival, Lanterns Festival, Qingming Festival, Dragon Boat Day, Chinese Lover’s Day and Mid-Autumn Day.

The Tujia have the hand-waving dance and unique wedding and funeral customs.

Miao have folk dance and song, they have colorful costumes too.


There's nothing much to do except that we explored the Teacher Clubhouse and found billard room, there is quite a number of billard saloon in Wuhan itself this shows that Wuhan peoples are embracing the a different pastime rather than playing chinese chess or go they could play billard.

Had dinner at Canteen 2 as usual, Singapore fried rice is the closest to Singapore dishes I could find in the campus, it is nothing close to anything Singapore except for it's name. It's oily and salty, high chance of getting sick if i keep eating that for weeks.
